On the 28th July, Nick Anderton and his club Bristol Rovers issued a statement to say that Nick had been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

Later that week, Rovers played Forest Green in their opening game of the season. Players from both teams wore t-shirts which read 'We're all with you Nick' alongside his shirt number, number 16. As the 16th minute of the game came, fans applauded in order to show their support for Nick.
